Good and Bad Days
PA - Mile 194 - May 14th, 2016
Hello my friends. I'm very grateful that you are willing to read my musings. You'll never know how much it means to me.
As with everyone, everywhere there are good days and bad days on the trail. 15 miles in new Keen boots = bad day. Having sweet friends that help you slack pack for days through some of the hardest part of the trail = good days. (Slack packing is when you only carry the things you need for the day, someone picks you up and delivers you to the trail. No camping.) I just can't thank my friend Ed Reagan enough for taking so much of his own time, gas and money to help me. He has made it possible for me to get good rest and stay well fed during this difficult section.
In other news, my little trail family has all gone its own ways. Some got off the trail, others wanted to go at different speeds. It was nice while it lasted. I switched from hammock camping to a tent. This allows me to more easily sleep in shelters when it's rainy and get more privacy in my tent when it's not.
Probably one of the biggest lessons I've learned out here so far is to just think/ worry about today. I can't let myself get bogged down in thoughts of what will happen weeks or months from now. I can only think about how I'm going to accomplish my goal today.
So far I've hiked 194 miles. Tomorrow I will break 200 and in 7 hiking days I'll be in another state. Exciting stuff! I'd really love it if you would sponsor me on hikefor.com . Until next time...
