Too thirsty to cry
Superior, AZ - Mile 300 - Mar 9th, 2018
The mind is capable of creating an infinite number of reasons why walking 800-miles is a bad idea and the body can showcase just as many verifications. But we kept walking and somehow we got to mile 300. I, Carly, must acknowledge a huge motivating force has been this fundraiser. That is to say, I may not have gotten here without your support.
There is difficulty in articulating on camera, let alone in word, the diverse, rugged and dynamic landscapes we have traverse thus far. From 9000' to 2000', over rocky crag and babbling brook, through oak groves, pine hillsides, golden grasslands and cactus jungles, Arizona has provided endless chances to be awe-inspired by what lies beyond the next bend or mountain crossing. Days of soaking rain, blustery winds, carving trail in ankle deep snow and being scorched by Sun (yes we are wearing sunscreen and hats), has only verified we are in a state of extremes. Our needs change on a daily basis- desire for a cooler wind, warmer sun, shelter from the elements, a pool to soak, a refuge to dry. In these times, one has two options- to endlessly seek and yearn or sink into the present. We do our best.
Until next time,
Carly and Hummingbird
PS- We're working on a country song, loosely based in this reality...
Im too thirty to cry. Too hungry to laugh. Too tired to scream. Hot enough to complain. I'm too thirst cry.
My feet are a achin' but I just keep on taken another down the line.
Hope you can hear the sarcasm.
